Glossary¶
Rally words, and the words the app uses for them. Terms are in alphabetical order.
Allowed time¶
The time the regulations give you to cover a road section between two time controls. In Liaison mode you enter it in the time card. See Liaison.
ALTA and BASSA¶
Italian term for two sets of average speeds for the same route: high (alta) and low (bassa). Spanish events use Alta and Baja. You choose one at entry. In the app they are two saved stages with the same sections. See Turning the roadbook into a stage.
Average speed¶
Distance divided by time. Average speed mode shows it. Regularity rallies are judged on holding a prescribed average speed. See Average speed.
Calibration factor¶
A number from 0.8 to 1.2 in Settings that scales every measured distance. The default is 1.0. See General settings.
Cambio media¶
Italian term for a change of average speed inside a test. In the app it is a new section in the speed chart. See Speed chart and Italy, Prove di media.
Checkpoint¶
A time control you recorded during a running stage. The checkpoints of a stage are listed in a sheet where you can edit them. See Checkpoints and TCs.
CO (controllo orario)¶
Italian term for a time control timed to the minute, on the liaison between tests. In the app you use Liaison mode. See Time control (TC), Liaisons and Italy, CO and liaisons.
Co-driver¶
The navigator. Reads the roadbook or pace notes, runs the tripmeter and the time card. Most of the app is built for the co-driver's hands.
Cumulative¶
Timing in which the ideal time runs on from the start of the test and no time control restarts it. The opposite is re-base. See Time controls and re-bases.
Custom layout¶
A screen you arrange yourself from components. There are three, Custom Layout 1 to 3, in the Custom layouts group of the drawer. See Custom layouts.
Dead time¶
The wait between a time control and the restart of the ideal time. In the app it is set with the Restart time. See Time controls and re-bases.
Demo mode¶
The Demo chip in the drawer, which opens the Demo mode sheet. The app simulates a drive instead of reading the GPS, and every Pro mode opens for you to try, with no fuel used. A red bar shows Simulating location with a speed stepper. Without a GPS position the demo car starts on a road in south Estonia. A Quick guide turns Demo mode on while it runs. Recordings made in Demo mode are not saved. See Licences and plans.
Distance unknown¶
A section type in a regularity stage. The length is not given in the roadbook. The section ends where you record the next time control. Until then, later totals show a question mark.
Early access¶
The status of Pacenotes, shown with an Early access badge in the drawer. Recce recordings goes with it. Both are free while the module is in beta. See Licences and plans.
Flying start¶
A start where you cross the start line at speed. In the app, use a Line start signal. See Start triggers.
Free zone¶
A section type in a regularity stage. No speed target or overdue warning is shown. The section's distance and time still count in the stage schedule. See Speed chart.
GPX¶
A common file format for GPS tracks. Routes are imported and exported as GPX, KML or GeoJSON. See Importing and exporting.
Guest account¶
The automatic account the app creates when you have never signed in. Routes, history and stages you make as a guest belong to it. They move to your account when you sign in.
Heading¶
The direction the phone is moving over the ground, in degrees, 0 to 360 with 0 as north. It is the GPS course, not a compass. See Rally Raid.
History¶
The list of finished stages, under Library. Each run has its track and speed in Telemetry.
Ideal time¶
The time you should be at your current distance to keep the prescribed average speeds. The Ideal Time component shows the difference. A plus sign and SPEED UP mean you are late. A minus sign and SLOW DOWN mean you are early. See Regularity | TSD.
Liaison¶
A road section between stages or time controls, driven in traffic within the allowed time. Liaison mode counts down to the next TC. See Liaison.
Pace notes¶
The driver's description of the stage: corners, crests, surface. Written on the recce. The app can generate them from a recording. See Recce and pacenotes.
Pause and Reverse¶
Two buttons of the trip toolbar. Pause stops the trips, and the ideal time keeps running. Reverse makes the trips count down. See Trip toolbar.
PC (prova cronometrata)¶
Italian term for a very short timed test, scored to a hundredth of a second. In Japan the same letters mean a pass control, see Japan. See Italy, Prove cronometrate.
Plan¶
What you pay for: Free (Tripmeter and Map for 80 km a day), Basic (Tripmeter and Map without the daily limit) and Pro (all modes, no limits). Without Pro, the Pro modes run on the daily Pro fuel. Your plan shows under your name at the top of the drawer. See Licences and plans.
PM (prova di media)¶
Italian term for a test driven at an imposed average speed. The ideal time is cumulative. See Italy, Prove di media.
POI (point of interest)¶
A marked place on a route. The types are POI, Waypoint, Danger, Caution, Fuel, Service, TC, Medical, Parking and Junction. See Recording.
Pro fuel¶
The free daily distance for real driving in the Pro modes without Pro, 40 km by default. A bar under the app bar shows what is left. A stage needs fuel to start, and a started stage always runs to its finish. See Pro fuel.
Quick guide¶
Hands-on tips on the live screen of a mode, with Demo mode driving the car. Open one from the ? icon in the app bar, or from Quick guides in the drawer. See Navigating the app.
Rally raid¶
A long cross-country event navigated by roadbook and heading. See Rally Raid.
Rally Time¶
The clock the app uses for stages, countdowns and time controls: the phone clock plus an offset you set. Tap the clock in the app bar to set it. See General settings.
Re-base¶
Restarting the ideal time at a recorded time control. In the app the + Restart buttons, and a long press on the Ideal Time, record a TC and re-base. See Time controls and re-bases.
Recce¶
The slow pre-event drive of the stages. Recce mode shows the speed limit for your position and warns when you go over. See Recce.
Regularity¶
A rally where you hold prescribed average speeds over measured sections. Early and late are both penalised. The app mode is Regularity | TSD. See Regularity | TSD.
Restart time¶
A choice on a time control in a regularity stage. It sets when the ideal time runs on from the control: at once, after 30, 60 or 120 seconds, at the next minute, or at a clock time you set. A recorded TC re-bases the ideal time.
Roadbook¶
The route description with distances from the last reference point. You follow it with the tripmeter.
Route¶
A GPS track you recorded or imported, with its POIs. See Viewing routes.
.rtstage¶
The file format for sharing a stage between phones. See Sharing stages.
Secret check¶
A timing point that the organiser does not announce. You must be on time everywhere in the test. The app does not know where the checks are.
Section¶
A part of a stage with its own speed target, speed limit or type. Sections are rows in the speed chart.
Section trip¶
The distance since the section started or since you last reset it. In a Regularity stage it starts again from zero at each new section. By default a long press anywhere on the screen resets it.
Service park¶
The place where the car is repaired between stages. See Service and history.
Special stage (SS)¶
A timed stretch of closed road, driven as fast as possible. See Race.
Speed chart¶
The table of sections of a stage: distance, speed and time. Any two give the third. See Speed chart.
Stage¶
A run with a start and a finish that the app times: a special stage, a recce run or a regularity test. Stages are saved in Library > Stages. Recce, Race (with Rally Raid) and Regularity | TSD each keep their own stage, and only one runs at a time. A stage mode with no stage loaded shows a start sheet with Create a stage and From library. See Creating stages.
Stage Timeline¶
The row of numbered dots and bars in Regularity | TSD that shows the sections, the target speed and the distance left. See Regularity | TSD.
Stage Timer¶
The component in Race and Rally Raid that shows the stage time. It is also the button that starts, finishes or cancels the stage. See Race.
Stage Trip¶
The distance since the start of the stage, or since the Start distance of a regularity stage. A running stage keeps it in every mode.
Sync¶
A button that snaps the stage trip to the boundary of the current section. Press it at the landmark. It does not record a TC unless the button says Restart, as Sync + Restart does.
Tabella tempi-distanze (TDT)¶
The time and distance table of a regularity rally (tabella tempi-distanze in Italian). It lists the sections of a test with their distances and average speeds. You enter it in the speed chart.
TC (time control)¶
A point where the organisers record your time. In the app, the checkpoints of a stage are TCs. In a Regularity stage, the Quick TC action, the + Restart buttons and a long press on the Ideal Time record one.
Telemetry¶
The recorded track and speed of a finished stage. See Telemetry.
Time card¶
The list of time controls for a liaison, with a fixed time or an allowed time from the previous one. See Liaisons and the time card.
Time to TC¶
The countdown to the next time control in Liaison mode. It rounds up to the second and counts below zero after the control is due. See Liaison.
Trigger¶
The signal that starts or finishes a stage: Tap, Time or Line. There is no trigger by distance. See Start triggers.
Trip¶
A distance counter. Trip 1 and Trip 2 are yours to reset. The stage and section trips belong to a running stage.
TSD (time, speed, distance)¶
The family of rallies built on those three quantities, of which regularity is the best known.
Tulip diagram¶
A drawing of a junction in a roadbook, with the direction to take. The app does not show it.
