Stage rally¶
A stage rally runs timed special stages on closed roads, joined by liaison sections on public roads that you must drive within allowed times. The app has a mode for each part: Recce before the event, Race on the stage, Liaison between stages.
What you need¶
- Pro, or the daily Pro fuel. Recce, Race and Liaison are Pro modes. Without a Pro plan you can still drive them each day on the free Pro fuel (40 km by default). See Licences and plans. To try them without driving, use Demo mode. See Try it without driving.
- The stage details from the regulations: speed limits for the recce, start times and the time card for the event.
- The Rally Time set to the official clock (tap the clock in the app bar). Starts and time controls depend on it.
- A rigid phone mount that the co-driver can read. A stage shakes a phone much harder than a road rally does. A loose phone is also a hazard in the car.
- A charger. GPS with the screen on drains the battery quickly.
Allow 10 to 20 minutes to set the app up before the event.
For your own reference
The app does not provide official timing. It times from the phone's GPS and clock, for the crew's own reference. The organiser's result is the one that counts.
How an event flows¶
| When | Mode | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Recce day | Recce | Drive the stage slowly, follow the speed limits, write the notes against the trips. |
| Between stages, and in the service park | Liaison | Count down to the next time control. |
| On the stage | Race | Time the stage with a Tap, Time or Line start. |
| Afterwards | History | Read the run, check the speed graph, export the track. |
You can switch modes in the drawer at any time. A stage that is running keeps running.
Recce and Race each keep their own stage, so a Recce stage does not show in Race. Only one stage runs at a time. If you start a Race stage while a Recce stage runs, the app asks Stop the Recce stage? first.
Each mode's ? in the app bar offers a Quick guide (tips on the live screen while Demo mode drives the car) and the User Manual.
